As new products are introduced, they inevitably supersede the previous generation. Sheffield defines three states for support status of products: Active, Retired and Discontinued. We strive to continue to support our products as long as possible, but often there are circumstances beyond our control which push a product from Retired (limited support available) to Discontinued (little to no support available).
The most common circumstance is lack of spare parts and subcomponents, particularly electronics. Once these parts are no longer available on the open market, or even the secondary market, there is little that can be done but to discontinue support of the unit.
Fortunately, we have defined a migration path for nearly every Sheffield CMM we have built in the last 20 years, so chances are we can make your CMM "like new" again (and in some cases, better than new!). Plus, with migration utilities, we often can migrate your old part programs up to the current version, so you won't have to rewrite.
Three Support States Defined:
Active :: Product Supported
- New parts available
- Refurbished parts available
- Customer property repair available
- Service support available
Retired :: Limited Product Support
- limited new part inventory
- limited refurbished inventory
- Customer property repair available
- limited service support
- Defined migration path for retrofits/upgrades
Discontinued :: Product Support Discontinued
- Select parts available
- No refurbished parts
- No customer property repair
- limited service support
- Defined migration path for retrofits
