The Universal Jogbox, is the all-new handheld control device for Sheffield Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs). The unit incorporates a modern touch screen interface with an ergonomic design and soft-touch materials. The Universal Jogbox was designed first and foremost to be extremely tough, designed to withstand the rigors of industrial use with improved resistance to drops and similar shocks. This new jogbox is designed from the ground up to optimize the workflow based on how users interact with the CMM.
A combination of traditional mechanical "hard" buttons, dials, and a joystick along with an industrial color touch screen deliver convenience and ease of use. Improved features and functionality include:
Offset joystick less likely to break if dropped
Double enable buttons for left or right-handed operation
Greater variety of functions available than on the old jogbox
Universal, clearly understandable button symbols
Audible feedback of screen presses
Operator Position Button
"Gloved Hand" Mode, with fewer buttons spaced further apart for ease of use with gloves
"Legacy Mode" features the traditional Sheffield jogbox button layout and labels
Two versions of the unit are available:
The basic unit controls all CMM functions and includes the legacy mode.
The enhanced unit will allow direct communication with PC-DMIS via Bluetooth wireless link (the unit still requires a cable, however). The enhanced unit allows PC-DMIS operator prompts and information to appear on the jogbox screen, which allows many functions to be performed without returning to the computer. On machines equipped with an indexing head, A and B angles can be selected from the jogbox. These PC-DMIS functions will be enabled in the next release of PC-DMIS.
